An operational world post Afghanistan is the focus for the next generation of Infantry Platoon Commanders being put through their paces in Cyprus.

Anyone watching Exercise Grim Warrior deep in the heart of the island's countryside might think it's another standard training scenario for Afghan mentoring. In fact for the young Lieutenants taking part the message is this is contingency training for a future deployment anywhere in the world, where working with local people and agencies is a certainty.

It is evidence of the Army reshaping to life after combat operations end in Afghanistan in 2014. It is also a return to core skills, focused on building capability for a deployment anywhere.
