Disclaimer - I'm not an audio engineer, these are my opinions that are provided without the influence of any brands. You should listen to guys like Glenn or when all else fails, trust your gut and your ears! If it sounds bad to you, get something else.

That out of the way, these are my thoughts on the M7 by Presonus. It was the first Mic I picked up as part of a kit; it was the old Studio One package before they released the newer USB96 version. Maybe they've made significant improvements to their hardware since. It's also a pretty unfair comparison to rate this against something like a Rode, but I figure this will provide you a working idea as to the quality of this particular microphone.

Edit:
For a bit of clarification, both mics were tested w/ the same mixer & preamps - the gain level that was set was calibrated using a 200hz sine wave (the M7 needed significantly more gain, which you can hear w/ the background noise), both recordings were captured within proximity effect distance and finally normalized in post to -3db. Aside from this, zero processing or compression were done - meaning no noise gating, either. Both were recorded in a regular room - aka untreated environment - aka the type of environment you'll most likely be recording in unless you've taken a stab at sound dampening or acoustic treatment.
