Primal Carnage: Extinction - THE MOMENT OF TRUTH
My theatrical gimmickry aside, do not mistake the content of this video as a wholesale approval of Primal Carnage: Extinction. I readily admit, and advise you to take into consideration, that my usual first impressions critique objectives took a backseat to that of discerning whether or not this game does or does not merit its cost to owners of the original Primal Carnage, and my commentary was focused rather squarely upon that question.
--------------:SPOILERS:--------------
I do believe Primal Carnage: Extinction merits its cost to prior customers, but only on the condition that I accept it as a standalone DLC rather than a true sequel, though I say so with no small amount of hesitation and caution, as I liken this game's cost-to-content to that of paid map packs for other contemporary FPS titles, which I'm not often a fan of, but grudgingly accept as part and parcel of modern FPS gaming.
Primal Carnage: Extinction still has a long way to go before even I, addled as I am in my love of all things dinosaur, can call it anything beyond "decent." The game's balance is horrifically skewed in favor of the dinosaurs, the audio is all over the place, matches lack automatic team balancing, compounding the already aggravating power gulf between the rival factions, and many of the dinosaurs' third person camera controls are cumbersome at best, their impressive animations notwithstanding.
Like I said in the episode proper, however, one good patch could update every last one of those concerns into oblivion, and Circle 5 are actually keeping up constant work on Extinction, and keeping a thumb on the pulse of its community, leading me to cautiously hope for the timely correction of Extinction's path toward the excellence it's absolutely got the potential for.
I still consider Extinction to be on the anemic end of contemporary FPS games, especially where progression is concerned; a niche title at best that only a select group will really glean a great deal of enjoyment out of in the long run, but which caters rather well to that group.
