The story for this game is simple on the surface but expands into a truly epic adventure. In the beginning Jennifer is the girlfriend of Lewis, the lead guitarist in a local band, and is looking foreward to a normal life. One night on the way back from a gig, a massive demon attacks and drags off Lewis, leaving Jennifer for dead. She awakens in a hospital, her spirit hovering around her unconscious body. At first she think she's dead, but a living gargoyle named Scree appears and tells her the truth. She has been freedom of the human world Mortalis so that she can travel to the Nexus between worlds, and fight the god of Chaos to restore order to the universe. Naturally Jennifer would much rather not be a savior, but her resolve is strengthened when she learns that Lewis was likely taken by the very demons serving chaos. Armed with mystical 'vambrace' gauntlets and the ability to change her body into the forms of demons, Jen and Scree must travel to four different worlds in peril and use their smarts and courage to break chaos' hold on their primal energies once and for all.

This is an undeservedly forgotten game with some of the highest production values and level of artistic detail and story of any game on the playstation 2 and perhaps in modern day. Each world is fully fleshed out with it's own history, native wildlife, governing species, and demon form Jen can adopt with its own special abilities. The character development between Jen and Scree I think remains unparalleled in video games since the two discover secrets about each other, fall out and even fight amongst themselves, and develop a bond of friendship as the game progresses which feels natural and honest. Jen is one of the best strong female characters out there since she's resourceful, intelligent, and independent but at the same time remains very human in her mistakes and misjudgments: not a marry sue. I also quite like the idea of her going to save her boyfriend instead of the traditional other way around. This isn't just a reversal its used as a legitimate plot investigation since for the longest time Lewis defended Jen, and now she's forced to decide if she can do the same for him.
