Prince of Persia is a franchise of video games created by Jordan Mechner in 1989 , initially developed and released for the computer Apple II in 1989.

The first and second games were 2D series moving to 3D graphics with the release of Prince of Persia 3D in 1999. The first two games of the series, Prince of Persia and Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame were developed by Broderbund . Prince of Persia 3D was developed for PC by Red Orb Entertainment and published by The Learning Company, and the version for the console Dreamcast was developed by Avalanche Software and launched by Mattel Interactive.

The company Ubisoft took over the series in 2003 and the first game in the series released by the Canadian company was Prince of Persia: Sands of Time . It is one of the most prolific series of games, which continued today.

A film based on the series of games, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time , was written by Mechner and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures in May of 2010. The most recent game was released Prince of Persia The Forgotten SNADS
