Private security booms in light of cuts 04.01.12
Many UK businesses are struggling with recession, but Private Security is one area that's booming. It's an industry, which attracts ex-service personnel, especially in light of cuts and redundancies. In the last ten years, the world of private security has seen rapid growth created by the war in Iraq, and sustained by the conflict in Afghanistan. At the height of the Iraq war, there were estimated to be three private security employees, for every British soldier in uniform. With little regulation, and salaries not what they once were, many are asking if it is worth it for often-dangerous work. Nevertheless, for those looking for a new career, with private security companies seeking specific military skills, there is plenty of work out there and not all of it at the high risk, high reward end of the scale. At a time of reduced defence spending, it remains a cheap and flexible way to support military operations, an industry set to keep on growing.
