Procedural Galaxy Generation in Space Warfare: Infinite
Showing off the procedural galaxy generation. I start the video in Unity's Editor so you can see the blank project - then I hit play and the galaxy generates. Basically it places stars of different types in a galaxy type shape and then generates what planets the star systems' contain. When I click on a star, the UI gives some basic data of the planets it contains -still rough. The nebula is currently being added in a more even fashion, but will be more randomized soon. I want there to be more color variation so that the different parts of space will be varied. It's fully 3D so I show how you can zoom in and around it. I also click on some of the star systems and lines connect to other stars within jump range. This will be based on your ship/fleets capabilities as well as a jump gate present to give you a farther boost. The underlying galaxy generation is important for creating play areas to fight over and control as well as explore. This graphical representation will mainly be used for HUD purposes (with more ways to hide large swaths of the map so you can actually figure out what to do.)
