[Synopsis]
This video is a review of Proster 3 HDMI port switch. This is a hdmi switch which enables you share one monitor, between 3 computers. If you want to share USB devices, like a keyboard, mouse, game pad, printer, or other USB devices, you have to get a 3 computer USB switch. This is a very inexpensive KVM setup, and I wanted to move away from DVI which is outdated now. Before I had this setup, I had a 2 computer KVM with DVI sharing two USB ports, 3.5mm stereo, and 3.5mm microphone. It was pretty messy due to the amount of cables I had to use. This setup is cleaner, and I can add more than 2 computers.
If you have a computer monitor, or a television which has internal speakers then you don't have to use the 3.5mm stereo port. The sound will come out of your television or monitor. For me, I want to use my speakers through the 3.5mm stereo port, because I have good speakers. Plus, I can use headphones which can be plugged in through the speakers.
As for what was advertised, this device works perfectly. My goal was to be able to connect 2 or more computers to a single monitor, and a single speaker with a 3.5mm jack. I had to improvise a little, because one of the computers didn't have a hdmi port. My PNY Geforce GTX 970 4 GB video card only had a mini HDMI port which I didn't have an adapter for. I found a HDMI to DVI adapter which I used to connect my HDMI cable to. To my surprise, I was able to get sound through the 3.5mm speakers. I didn't have to configure anything on my computer, it just worked out of the box.
Sometimes, I want to use a single board computer to do mundane things, like surfing the internet, playing retro games, checking email, reading webpages, reading blog posts, and it only uses 3.4 watt vs. using 750 + watt. I don't want to use my flagship computer to do those tasks. Most of the times I use my computer for non work related tasks, I don't need such a powerful machine to do it on.
If you are using the 3 computer 4 port USB switch, it is recommended that you use a micro USB cord and connect it to a power adapter. If you are using a single board computer, like a Raspberry Pi 4, Odroid C4, or any other SBC it will not have enough power to provide enough power to USB ports with a switch.
