In this video, we unbox and check out the different offerings to protect your retro games from CustomGameCases.com.

It never fails, you go and pick up an awesome new game for your collection & the box is either missing, damaged, or there's some other issue with it. You can go and try to hunt down and original box, and depending on the title that can be stupid expensive. Another problem you have with boxes, unless they're Sega boxes, they're made out of cardboard meaning they will eventually deteriorate. This is where the folks from CustomGameCases.com come in to play, with their awesome looking storage solutions for multiple systems.

What sent me down this rabbit hole was I needed to get boxes for two of my Virtual Boy games. I had seen this ad pop up in my Facebook feed repeatedly for their website, and the ad was focusing specifically on Virtual Boy boxes. I finally reached out to them and placed an order. But in addition to my Virtual Boy games, I also wanted to get some cases for some of my NES, Super NES, and N64 titles.

The cases themselves are molded out of a fairly resilient composite, and they are also available in number of different colors. Red, black, clear, just to name a few. On the inside of all of the game cases are two tabs to hold a manual on the left hand side of the case. This is a feature I remember from rental cases back in the day, and I'm glad to see them add it here.

One of the neatest features they offer is the ability to order box art in either a portrait or landscape orientations. This allows you to have your games displayed on a shelf and whichever fashion you prefer. Have a low profile shelf? Landscaped will work for you. height not an issue? You want the original what? That's where the portrait orientation would come into play.

The artwork on each of the boxes look to be a very good quality. The colors are vibrant, and the original box hard copy is all there. You can see some instances where you can tell that it is a reprint, something you would totally expect, but I will tell you those issues are few and far between. They definitely do not look like someone just spit them out of an inkjet printer!

Why It RoX:
- Available for a wide variety of cartridges and systems
- Landscape and portrait artwork available
- The outside of the cases are completely flush, making for easy storage and stacking
- Integrated storage for memory cards and manuals
- Box artwork looks spot-on
- Multiple case color options available

What could be improved:
- In some instances the cases are more expensive than the games
- Fitment of the games can be a little tight initially until broken in
- Takes up more room on a shelf than loose cartridges

Should you buy it?
Going into this project, my main goal was to get my cases for my Virtual Boy games, and man I fell into a rabbit hole! I love the way these cases look, and the level of protection they provide is outstanding. I can relax knowing some of my most valuable titles, and I'm not just talkin monetary value, are now extremely well protected while looking great. My autographed Darkwing Duck, my NWC repro cart, Mario 64, these are games that I want to see maintained for the foreseeable future without any deterioration. And thanks to the Custom GameCases.com crew, I have that opportunity to protect my collection.
