This is rough sample prototype arrangement for concept for a future arranged album.

Rough arrangements are for concept only, consisting of low-quality samples, and may not have been entirely mixed or panned. They exist to demonstrate the arrangement planned for the future Might and Magic I~V arranged album consisting of combination of high-quality sample libraries and/or live instruments.

This arrangement is based on all versions: Roland MT-32, Roland SC-55, SoundBlaster, PC-98/FM-TOWNS. I want to thank Joseph Collins for some additional ideas starting at 2:35. My 7-year old son is also responsible -- while I was editing this arrangement, he was playing random notes on the background on the keyboard... And something he played fit this piece perfectly... So he's responsible for the additional notes heard throughout, specifically at 0:25~0:33.

The Roland MT-32 version of this theme was originally composed for the Japanese game Starfire, before its designers decided to use OPN/OPNA FM music instead. (Only 2 of 17 original BGM designed for it were actually used in the final version of Starfire, and entirely new BGM were later composed for it). These 17 initial Starfire pieces were then intended to be used by Darkside's designers for various Sci-Fi environs and scenes.

In the final version of Darkside, this piece is used in all of the game's Science-Fiction environs, consisting of two spaceships (Corak's and Sheltem's), and a strange region at the bottom of the Dungeon of Death, and the Metal Tower (Swords of Xeen). Takeshi Abo no longer remembers what this piece was originally composed for in Starfire, saying, "I don’t remember, as I would expect, since nothing is mentioned in the source." (ソースに何も記載されていないので、さすがに覚えていません。) Based on the incomplete list of known original titles of Starfire's music and the location list from the Starfire design documents, the most likely candidate for its original usage is the "Radium Pill Factory".

The original Roland MT-32 MIDI of this theme has not yet been located. The Macintosh (being recorded from the original MIDI) and the PC-98 and FM-TOWN versions are the original full-length version. But the final PC version is edited, dropping the final two measures before the loop point. The PC-98 and FM-TOWNS versions also preserve the correct original loop point.
