PS1 Custom Soundtracks Demonstration
Before the days of hard drives that allow users to play their own music in the games, there were a select few games that would allow you to play your own music. The only ones I know are racing games, because of the way they are designed. In these few racing games, the track, and cars and everything is loaded entirely into the system's memory which then allows you to open the PS1 (or in this case PS2) up, remove the actual game disk, and then load your own CD of choice into them.
The Three games I'm showing are Wipeout XL, Moto Racer, and Rage Racer. I just recently acquired WOXL, and Rage Racer. I do know the entire Wipeout series on the PS1 allows you to do this as does the first two Ridge Racer games on the PS1 (I don't think R4 does though). There are probably more games that do it as well, that I'm not aware of. I do know that Gran Turismo does not.
To stay safe from a copyright claim (*crosses fingers*), I decided to use gaming music in this vid. I have made my own custom gaming music CDs here and there.
The songs used in Wipeout are from Quake II. The one used in Moto Racer is from the Sega Saturn version of Duke Nukem 3D, and the ones used in Rage Racer are from Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VI, and the ending is from Tomb Raider 2.
Obviously I'd be using CDs (you know, those things people used to listen to music with before downloads) from my own music collection when not capturing video.
It's not the greatest thing ever, but it is kind of cool, and I'm betting a lot of people were oblivious to the fact that these games let you do this.
NOTE: All games are being played on a PS2 with texture smoothing on. Also, please forgive my crappy playing.
