[PS1/Duckstation] Twisted Metal 2 (Tourney "Legal" Dark Tooth)
This is a Tournament Mode playthrough featuring Dark Tooth on Medium difficulty. He cannot be played without a Gameshark code on the PS1 version; on the PC version, you have to edit the registry on a saved Tournament Mode game file to access Dark Tooth which means there are more limitations to playing as Dark Tooth on PC. The gameplay was recorded using a Duckstation PS1 emulator which enables on-the-fly cheat toggle, and this is important as the game will clearly be buggy when factoring in a character that was never meant to be legitimately playable in the first place. I will occasionally need to toggle on a code that forces a cap on the # of enemies that will show up in the level as it is the only way to get the level to load properly in Tournament mode (oddly enough, this isn't an issue in Challenge mode - you can have the max number of enemies possible for that level and it won't be an issue where Dark Tooth is concerned). Throughout the video, there will be a number listed at the top left corner which will refer to the notes below, so you can read the relevant number note when it shows up in the video.
NOTES:
#1 Amazonia is the first level that presents huge issues for playable Dark Tooth; LA, Moscow, and Paris all work mostly fine with the max enemy cap. For Amazonia, sometimes it won't load; sometimes it does load but the level and game will freeze shortly after. Therefore, this level is the first time I'd use the code to have an enemy cap of 5 in order to let the level load properly (the max amount for this level is 6). One other thing to note is that the boss fights are considered their own level, which means the code will also affect the Minion fight and add extra enemies where I don't want them. So I have to immediately toggle off the code to revert to "normal" and have a standard 1v1 Minion boss fight. One other thing to note is that the side of the level with the pond risks glitching up the level to have the level be mono-colored if you ever stick around or venture by that area. If you spawn here, Turbo away IMMEDIATELY and use the underground temple route/health on the bridge to divide the level so that you can mentally note to stay the hell away from that half of the level.
#2 New York is a mixed bag; sometimes it doesn't load but other times it loads and plays fine with the max enemy cap. The big brown roof that is connected to the building with the elevator shaft seems to freeze often if you venture by with Dark Tooth and the max enemy cap, so stay away if you don't use the code to reduce the enemy number. Please note that Dark Tooth does not have a death animation if he were to fall to the death zone; because of that, you will not be able to respawn (this is also true of Antarctica), so avoid falling at all costs.
#3 Antarctica is another problem level; I haven't determined the exact zone that causes the glitching up, but this seems to be the whole area with the teleporter. If you spawn there, you don't really have a chance to get away in time before the game glitches. I played this whole level glitched up, and it's so unbearable to watch that I deliberately chose to speed up that segment to get to Holland faster.
#4 Hong Kong fails to load with the max enemy cap, so I was forced to reduce the enemy numbers to 5 to get it to load properly.
#5 In order to properly play the Dark Tooth battle, the enemy cap needs to be set to 2. If you don't turn on the code, the game will not spawn a Dark Tooth enemy and you'll just end up driving around in silence with the "Enemies Toasted!" message on screen. Since Dark Tooth was never meant to confront another Dark Tooth, the game renders your Dark Tooth invisible and you become immune to everything but flame damage (Dark Tooth's head attack sets you on fire); however, you also are unable to do any damage except by using Remote Bombs. I wasn't going to be waiting for remote bomb pickup respawns so I went to input the infinite weapons code, though my controller had a hard time registering the inputs. You'll see me glitch into the water and die as I spend a long awkward time seemingly just sitting around while trying to input the infinite weapons code; the water area is the only way to still get killed while in this vaguely invincible/invisible state.
#6 Same deal with the head phase, though it is interesting to see that the head gets to have the ice cream truck as part of its "vehicle" too despite it getting blown to smithereens in the first phase.
#7 Obviously there wouldn't be an ending for a playable Dark Tooth, but it's interesting to see that you can still get the general "You Win Twisted Metal!" screen at the end of it all.
