Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is Nippon Ichi's second foray into tactical RPGs and the start of a rather long series of games. It was released in 2003 and feature tactical turn-based combat, quirky characters, hilariously over-acting voice actors and lots of "Nippon Ichi style" humour.

We follow Laharl, a demon and the son of the (late) Overlord of the Netherworld, in his struggle to gain control over his heritage after his old man chokes to death on a Black Pretzel. During the game, he gains the support of several characters, demons, humans and even angels.

The mechanics of the game are hugely intricate, with item levels, item specialists, weapon mastery, stat-aptitude and lots and lots of other weird words. It is also allows OCD players to keep playing the game for a long time, maxing their characters. As an example, the final boss of the story is level 90 and the last optional boss is level 6000.

I try not to level up too much in relation to the story, but there is almost always some hidden levelling between chapters, so don't be surprised if stats change unexpectedly. In general, I show new mechanics in detail the first time they are available (and reasonable to use), and then edit them out the rest of the time. I go for the "good" ending, which is considered canon by Nippon Ichi.

The bonus video contains all the optional post-game stuff and some other extras. More specifically, the other endings, some japanese voice acting,
some unlockables and all the optional dungeons, including soloing the last boss with a max-level Laharl, just for funsies.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, I'm making HEAVY use of cheat codes in the post-game. It probably takes around 100 hours just to max-level one character, and getting the best equipment can be even worse. I love you guys, but not that much. It's enough that the game-clock was over 100 hours when I was done recording. No cheats during the story, though!
