The story of Rayman Revolution is a long one. Rayman 2: the great escape was originally gonna be a 2D side scroller like the first rayman game, however there would be some 3D elements be added in. Soon the game was switched to be fully 3 dimensional.

The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal who at the time was also working on Tonic Trouble in the same engine. Where Rayman 2 was supposed to be the game more focused on action and Tonic Trouble was more focused on adventure.

In 1999 the game first released on the Nintendo 64 and on windows. Later in the same year the game also saw releases on the PlayStation and on the dreamcast. In 2000 the version that is played in this video got released. Rayman Revolution (knows as Rayman 2: Revolution in the United States) on the playstation 2 is a port of rayman 2 featuring improved textures and minor level design tweaks.
