Via Gaming Intel: It seems that all is not well with the PS4 firmware update 9.0 as reports of consoles bricking or having connection issues begin to arrive.
If you’re a PS4 user and you’re yet to update your console, maybe hold off for a while. It seems that Sony’s new PlayStation update isn’t running smoothly, with issues reported across the board.
Via PC MAG: Yesterday, Sony released system software update version 9.00 for the PS4, but even though it was a relatively small patch at 490MB, it's causing serious problems for some consoles.
For the vast majority of PS4 owners, the update installs without issue. However, a Reddit thread details multiple problems, including the PS4 being very slow after the update or unable to gain access to PSN. Some consoles are crashing, and in the worst cases the update has bricked Sony's hardware.
So far, there doesn't seem to be any clear link between the consoles affected. The base PS4, PS4 Slim, and PS4 Pro are all reported as experiencing problems. Having USB storage plugged into the console doesn't seem to make any difference, either, after it was suspected as a potential cause. In some cases, the update won't even finish installing in spite of multiple attempts to do so. That may end up being a blessing in disguise for those PS4 owners.
Via Games Rant The latest major update for the PlayStation 4 is finally available today, however, it's far from perfect as it's causing a laundry list of issues for some PS4 owners. While it's meant to bring the consoles up to speed with their current-gen PS5 counterparts, it seems like the update is doing more harm than good in some cases.
The 9.00 PlayStation 4 update is mainly about connecting the PS4 and the PS5 together by allowing players to view their PS5 trophies on their PS4. Players are also able to delete message groups if they're the owners and PS4 remote play now works using cellular data instead of requiring a WiFi connection.
