[PS4] Death Stranding - Prologue 'Porter' - Monday 20th September 2021
1I start the new Hideo Kojima game Death Stranding on the Playstation 4 Pro. A gorgeous looking and sounding game, with stunning visuals, acting and gameplay.
I play as Sam Porter Bridges, a courier that makes deliveries. The game starts with an atmospheric look at the earth and a relaxing song. I'm riding my bike as a storm sets in. I jump a gap in the land and end up crashing my bike and losing it down the side of a mountain so I set off on foot after I recover my dropped packages and seek some shelter in a cave. The rain is revealed to be some sort of acidic rain.
Suddenly an invisible creature that leaves handprints on the ground enters the cave. A lady grabs my arm and gestures to be quiet. The creature walks around the cave and eventually leaves. Human figures appear to levitate in the sky during the rain. The lady notices my tears, an allergic reaction to Chiralium which she calls DOOMS. I inform her that I can't see but can sense the creatures which she calculates me being on level two. The rain is known as Timefall.
She introduces herself as Fragile. She then consumes a Cryptobiote, which resembles a pink witchetygrub. She asks me to work for her but I politely decline. Fragile explains that the Timefall fast forwards whatever it touches, almost like a time machine effect. The Timefall rain has fallen on an old photograph and has erased the face of what appears to be someone next to Sam in a photo. She disappears and I continue on my delivery which is a consignment of smart drugs.
I eventually make it to the destination which is the Central Knot City delivery centre. Upon the delivery I chat to a hologram of a lady that thanks me for the delivery but asks me why I was late. I inform her I had to wait out the storm and that I lost my bike. After that I go outside and meet Igor from Bridges Corpse Disposal. He shows me a corpse on the back of their vehicle and informs me that it is to be incinerated. Igor explains that the person killed himself and that we need to take him to the nearest incinerator to the north before it's too late. The route to the incinerator will mean that we need to cross some BT's. These are revealed as the invisible creatures from the cave.
Igor shows me that he has a Bridge Baby or BB strapped to his chest. A baby that is encased in a liquid storage unit that he plugs into. We make our way to the incinerator and Igor explains that an event called the Death Stranding left America deserted and barren and the creatures originated from the beach. Close to running out of time, we encounter heavy rain. The vehicle is attacked and we end up crashing. The driver is trapped under the vehicle and the creatures approach. I tell Igor and the driver to stop breathing as the creatures will sense us. The corpse then starts to decompose and attract more creatures. The driver then panics and is attacked. Igor pulls out a gun and shoots him to put him out of his misery.
Igor drops the BB before getting attacked and I pick up the BB and witness a giant creature destroying the earth before an explosion happens and I wake up on a beach with the BB crying. Suddenly the BB disappears and I see that I'm at the beach where whales and sealife are all dead. I notice a lady in red walking in the water and as I follow her, I'm pulled under the water and in a dream sequence I see through the eyes of the BB of what looks to be the BB's father.
I then wake up with the BB and notice I'm standing next to a crater, which is what Igor explained would happen if the corpse wasn't incinerated in time.
