The xbox series x and PCs are both powered by DirectX of course, but DX12 on PCs was particularly important, fixing a lot of the issues with coding games to PC, including the higher levels of hardware abstraction, not as much utilization of multiple CPU threads and other such issues.

DirectX 12 ultimate (now DX12_2) adds a bunch of new features, including Variable rate shading, mesh shading, ray tracing, and sampler feedback. These features were previously announced, but now Microsoft provides way more details on to the additional features of the new and updated API.

We also have supposed release dates for both the Playstation 5 and the Xbox series x, with both consoles apparently appearing from early to mid November, 2020.
