PS5/Slim M.2 SSD Upgrade (Without Heatsink) Guide
30What is up guys, today we'll be upgrading our PS5 by installing a 1TB M.2 SSD. As you know the PS5 only has around 660GB of free storage space, which with todays games size i not enough. So Adding an NVMe M.2 SSD expands your console's storage capacity, allowing you to store more games and media. Unlike a simple USB storage that you can also use on the PS5, an M.2 SSD allows you to download, play and update games directly on the SSD.
Another important thing is that if you follow the instructions properly, Installing an M.2 SSD on your PS5 will not void the console's warranty, which is great.
So before moving forward, make sure you have the right SSD- PS5 and PS5 Slim support up to 8TB of PCI Express Gen4x4 M.2 NVMe SSDs with the following form factors- 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, 22110. The recommended Read speed should be above 5.500 MB/s. The SSD that i have here is made by a brand called FikWot and it's perfectly compatible with the PS5 as well- the read speeds of this model are up to 7350MB's which is more than enough.
For this install we'll need a simple cross head screwdriver. Before proceeding make sure your PS5 is not plugged in to anything and remove the power cord. To be extra safe you can also wear and anti static wrist strap or touch a metal-grounded object to remove any static electricity from your body.
