Lately I've had a few too many problems with ALSA so I finally decided to switch over to PulseAudio and you know what, it was an absolutely amazing idea. It worked perfectly out of the box, configuring it to work with my audio setup was painless and I was back up and running in only a few minutes. Now it's not like PulseAudio replaces ALSA in fact it uses it a lot in the backend, however it vastly simplifies the configuration process
