So I found out how to do this graphical glitch, and it's basically the same as softlocking.
First, you create a "limbo block" with a well timed spin and clear to lock a piece in a wall (1:43). The overwritten block will stay there when you downstack to it, but will have weird properties:
- Polyominoes will just harddrop through/into it. The limbo block will not be used to clear lines however, so keep track of where it is not to end up with a seemingly full line staying on the screen.
- Dropping a regular pair/set puyos on it will softlock your board (2:33). This is most likely due to the puyos not being able to know where to land, thus staying in mid-air consequently preventing the next piece to spawn. (Although sometimes what happens is it just prevents puyos fron clearing so you can link dozens of them together then squish them with a polyomino to make them pop)
- Dropping a group of puyos from your special Tetromino however will cause this weird graphical glitch (2:20). I assume it's because it tries linking the puyo inside the limbo block with something else, so it looks like it stretches to the top left corner of the screen. Also somehow it makes me drop the puyos through the solid block under it so I have no clue what's going on.
