Pwnery's Reloading Bench - .30-40 Krag (.30 Army)
Today, I became "The Answer to Life, the Universe, and everything in between." This is also the post-Wanenmacher hangover week - which I didn't get the chance to go attend this year, but it's okay, because I still managed to acquire a rifle that I had missed out on 4 years ago the last time I went there which you'll see a little teaser of at the end of this video.
I'm still trying different camera angles with these videos so hopefully this was decent enough to give you an idea of what I'm doing on the bench. Today's PRB covers America's first bolt-action repeating rifle cartridge adopted for military service, the .30 Army, also known as .30-40 Krag (30 caliber, 40 grains of powder). We're not using 40 grains since today's modern powders are far more efficient to produce the same results. Today's load table is also a "split the difference" in terms of powder-charge, overall length, and bullet weight between a 190 grain and 220 grain (the original military bullet weight) to help achieve a gentle pressure curve that'll be easy on the single locking lug action, while giving you a good, accurate shooter, and to give you decent velocity at the same time which meets, or maybe even exceeds the original FPS.
So sit back, relax, enjoy the tunes, and stay tuned to the end of the video for a special announcement regarding my channel. I didn't add the cost breakdown on this one, but like most PRB's, the roll your own costs are substantially less than buying already loaded ammo if you can even find it these days!
Note : I do not do these videos for any monetary gain thanks to the "unique" changes YouTube has made in their requirements for monetized content, and have maintained procedural information as close as possible in line with their new guidelines as well. I do these videos for solely for the spread of information, and maybe a little notoriety in my often-infringed upon community.
