1 second faster than my previous demo.
Would you look at those decimals! I've spent waaaaay too much time on this demo, but I'm stubborn as a donkey, and I knew it was just a matter of time before I finally got the luck required to do this one fast. At first glance, the demo looks real easy, but let me explain everything in detail
as there's a lot of miss if you don't know what to look for. Here's the key elements:
1. Shoot the instant the map loads to alert the Ogre, i.e. to get the monster into position (see point 2 for further explanation).
2. Get the first Ogre and Death Knight to fight eachother. This is absolutely paramount to the whole run. If I fail this, I will ALWAYS end up with one (or more) kill(s) missing. About 95% of my attempts ended right here.
3. I got lucky in this run as the Death Knight (the one that fought the Ogre) got telefragged as I exited the teleporter from the lava pool room. That almost never happens.
4. Shoot the button that leads to the red armor secret. Easy, right? Not really though , as it's really hard to hit when you're at full speed and you need to tilt to one side while aming and shooting.
5. This is ironic for a speedrun, but I can't reach the 2nd Death Knight too fast (the one where the secret mega health is), or it'll get alerted and either bolt in an unwanted direction, or it'll block my path.
6. When all of the above miraculously goes according to plan, one or two of the Zombies in the tight corridor are bound to block my path. I hate those stinking Zombies!
7. This is the most tricky one, and the hardest to spot for the untrained eye. Right at the end of the demo when I push the final button that opens the door to the exit, sometimes the Ogre on the stairs will wander towards the exit and get telefragged by the Death Knight that teleports in when I hit the button. Look closely toward the exit when I push the button and you can see the Ogre getting telefragged. I never got a 0:48, or even a 0:49 without this "trick" being utilized.
From the SDA FAQ:
There's a few levels where you can't get 100% kills because there's Zombies but no way to kill them. We all used to think E3M3 was one of them, but that has been showed to be wrong. For the normal 100%, do NOT kill the zombies.
