0Quake is the next big step-up for id Software, as the Quake engine is their first game engine to display full 3D graphics. The game also has more multiplayer capabilities as it truly introduced online play over the Internet.
The singleplayer mode is once again like that of its predecessors, Wolfenstein 3D and Doom; shoot up enemies, collect items and weapons, get keys to access new areas, find secret areas, exit the level to finish it. The keys get removed from the player's inventory this time upon opening the respective door, but since it stays permanently open, it's not really much to worry about.
The game also continues the trend of leaving the first episode as the only playable episode in the shareware version, with the user having to pay to register their game to play the other episodes.
