Quake II RTX | RTX 2080 Ti | Quake 2 RTX | 4K was recorded with ShadowPlay in real-time in 4K resolution to reduce all the lag and demonstrate you fps without a dramatic fps drop or lag, so to get fps without the recording just add 3 fps to the fps counter.
Quake II RTX mode has dynamic day time feature, so sun is emulating the lighting based on your time in your local PC system. It could be night, morning, evening, dawn or automatic. I was using Earth skybox texture because original skybox texture in the game does not work with global illumination, so I used Nvidia Earth like skybox texture that brough that sun emulation pretty well. Local machine time was 10 am and it feels like 10 am with proper sun position and exposure during my Quake II RTX gameplay. Lighting, global illumination, refrection, reflection were mathematically correct through path tracing with RTX technology for path tracing accelerations. Somehow Quake II RTX mode is barely using CPU and CPU was idling almost 99% of the time at 800 MHz at energy saving mode. I showed high and low visual presets performance on RTX 2080 Ti video card during my Quake II RTX gameplay. So you can see that it does not matter how fast is your CPU for full RTX environment because almost all calls will go through your video card. Performance is upseting factor and it is clear that Nvidia needs 3 years at lease and 2-3 generation of RTX video cards with 100% performance increase in RTX per video card to have playable at very comfortable fps in 4K resolution. My experience during Quake 2 RTX 4K gameplay was playable but it was not comfortable. I will record a video with Titan RTX when I will explain with details and will comment in real-time. All of these can be emulated with simple methods that is available in today`s PC 3d gaming with 300-400 fps in real-time visuals and have similar visual to RTX. Does it worth it? I used PC System specs:
Motherboard: Asus Maximus XI Hero Wi-fi
CPU: Intel Core i9 9900K 5.3GHz stable overclocked( 6 cores enabled, 2 cores were disabled and no hyper threading with vcore: 1.395v)
SSD: Crucial 2 TB M500 for game installation
Ram DDR4: Corsair Vengeance 2133 MHz CAS 13
Video cards: single EVGA RTX 2080 TI CX ULTRA video card was overclocked during this gameplay(single RTX 2080 TI was overclocked: GPU was overclocked +100MHz additional frequencies and VRAM was overclocked to +1000 MHz (+2000 MHz external additional frequencies boost to stock GDDR6 frequencies). Video card was running cool and stable.
Power Supply: EVGA 1600 Watt T2 Titanium Grade
OS: Windows 10 Pro installed on Samsung 850 Pro 2 TB
Recording software: Nvidia ShadowPlay while recording at 4K resolution to decrease video encoding lag
