To play the free stages, enter through the center portal first, and to the left gateway when the game starts. Again, you can customize the keyboard layout to suit your needs.
All game options, including the ability to purchase the full game can be accessed directly from the initial start screen. There's even multiplayer modes that are available. All the classic Quake weapons are available in the game.
