Quick Look | The Sacred Mirror of Kofun (1996) Over hyped game build around Japan Pyramids
The Sacred Mirror of #Kofun is a first-person 3cd adventure game, another of the many attempts in the nineties to copy Myst and its financial success. It features a blend of Quicktime VR 360 panoramic views with the more traditional slide-show style associated with this type of game.
You play as Chris Young, a top racecar driver and marine technology specialist, is summoned by the Worldwide Heritage Foundation to retrieve the sacred mirror of Kofun, a mysterious Japanese artifact that offers magical protection against enemies.
Most of the gameplay consists of scuba diving and taking photos under the sea (the game was co-produced by the famous marine biologist Jean-Michel #Cousteau) and talking to the crew of the ship Antares for clues. The underwater sections use real documentary footage instead of pre-rendered environments. (from mobygames.com)
Not to mention, the whole game is build around real Japanese Pyramids called 'keyhole' tombs of Kofun , more about them here youtube.com/watch?v=ZkUIMRTEe-k ... that many to this day did not knew existed , since only Egyptian and Mayan cultures became well known , thanks to hollywood movies and archaeology grands... So hi and Welcome to the many wonders of Japan ... and to a game that produced big Hype but failed to deliver ...
We stopped at CD 2 of 3 ... when we visited the sunken ship and lost two mini shark subs... but to be honest we where stuck , since from the videos on those 3 CDs looks like you have to use the broken Web Browser to look for words (with many combinations) to give you coordinates for 2 more places, when you find a sunken Boat that has a serial number ... that would guide you to CD 3 , and explore two Islands ... neat game , back on my 15" CRTV it was fun ... but was stuck at the same place ... so waited for a text walkthough that never was made (and that was in 1998 !) ... oh well, on to the next game ...ey, awkward aardvark youtube.com/channel/UCs5GLwAB8Z2aWeqlqxoHxUw ...or Andrea Pannocchia youtube.com/user/TheAnPan
PS. Sorry again for not doing the whole thing , tried to ... but let's see if someone from my group will finish this ...
