Description:

Maria the Automaton Handler and her partner, Iris the Machinariae, venture to an island in search of a wish-granting treasure. To get to the treasure, they'll have to prove their worth in five element-themed dungeons, find the Tower of Desire, and hopefully beat their rivals to the punch, but there's a mysterious person antagonizing anyone attempting the trials. Can this underdog duo really succeed with all these obstacles?

I had to change things up a bit from the default XBox controls.

For the difficulty, I picked Hard at first, but changed to Expert after the tutorial. IMO, Expert actually has a mechanical advantage over Hard despite the increased enemy damage.

Maria and Iris seem to be taking on some monster extermination work.

I did this on hard mode because I was indecisive about the difficulty. It's the same either way, since the slimes don't seem to attack.

I don't think the island they're going to even has a name. Lazy worldbuilding?

Note that on the way to town, there's a monument showing how many dungeons you've cleared.

Yes, that is the name of the town.

You can't stay at the inn, since another handler/automaton pair is staying there.

I somehow activated challenge mode despite not beating the game yet.

When you step foot to the monster-filled area north of town, you have to save the seer from two monsters.

The Seer's father was an adventurer, but he went missing while doing the island's trials. To get into the Tower of Desire, we must beat the Labyrinth of the Five Beasts. She also tells us that we can use the house to the northwest as our base of operations.

Unfortunately, we run into the rival characters, Mel and Orchis. Mel mocks Maria for being a less skilled handler and runs off to do the trials.

This one is hidden in Plains: Center.

This is the first and easiest of the Soul Crystal Shrines. Unfortunately, they're really hard to find, so I'll probably just beat the game without finding them all. Hopefully, I can max out the Stat Boost grid without finding them all.

I went to the SW to get to the water dungeon. The bird enemies are really nasty. I didn't realize at the time, but you can stand completely still to guard, which would have helped a bit against the mobile birds who do collision damage.

The big jellyfish will split into smaller ones upon death.

To get here, take the middle west exit in Quiet Falls: Pond East.

1:00:26 Energy Burst Tutorial

The enemy cannot be damaged at first, but after some time, you'll gain the Energy Burst action. If you're on expert and you have Free Buster active, you must use the item button to use your Energy Burst. Free Buster doesn't combo off a normal attack, but the fact that you can skip your chain makes it easier to use long-range options to snipe enemies.

Activate the statue to remove an obstacle from another map. Travel further and you'll spot Mel and Orchis.

1:12:08 Boss: Beast of Water

It looks like a giant ghost.

The enemies and bosses have no official names! This game really needs a bestiary or name display for the bosses at least.

The boss's bubbles are really nasty, since they can slow you down. Unlike me, you should stand still and guard if you aren't confident in dodging the dakka. I really wish the game would give us a bigger field of vision, since it's hard to dodge enemy projectiles otherwise.

We get the first key to unlocking the tower, which comes in the form of a core for automatons.

1:16:51 Iris's Dream

Iris dreams of the time Mel threw a sharp metal object at Maria for sleeping in class.

1:18:35 Island Town P2

Installing the key into Iris caused her to sleep longer than usual.

The water core gives Iris the Icy Blade Energy Burst, but makes her weak to Earth damage.

According to the Seer, the tower disappeared after too many adventurers died trying to find it.

Each time you beat a boss, all enemies get stronger. This could make reexploring old dungeons tougher unless you had the advantageous element to begin with.
