No commentary playthrough of the DOS game Quiver. Ran under DOSBox, I can't remember which skill level I selected, so let's say it was in normal.

Quiver is a FPS released for DOS based PCs... in 1997! Most of the work being done by Michael Taylor and another person as an artist, the idea was to provide a shooter that would be playable on the aging 486s where Quake wasn't. Unfortunately, this noble goal is also the culprit for everything wrong with this game. This came with a bunch of limitations that ultimately made the game look, play, and feel worse than Doom... in 1997! The game runs with a cap of 24fps, the level are grid based (but allow for angled walls), the animations are choppy, texture variety is low, the weapons are different kinds of boring projectile weapons and even reuse some graphics... At least the game is playable, doesn't have any jarring bugs or features, but it's just there, not trying to be actually "good" at anything at all. I wanted to like this one, but it just felt lazily put together to me. If it were released in, let's say 1994 or 1995, it would and ok-ish Doom clone to play, but in 1997... no chance.

As a curious note, this game was only avaiable digitally... in 1997! You would download the demo, and if you cashed in, you would get a code to unlock the rest of the game. Unfortunately, the full game only includes new levels and a few of new textures.
