I was practicing this game for most of the month of July and into the beginning of August 2018 before I could finish without dying again. I've had Stage Select open since 2008 when I could easily do this... but then I forgot everything over the years... and had to work my way back up. I wanted to do this immediately after I finished R-Type Final in summer 2017, but then I put it off... I'm kind of glad I did, because 2018 marks my ten year anniversary for No Miss-ing R-Type Delta.

If R-Type Final was my 'Operation Last Dance' as one viewer put it, then let this be my epilogue, and also a love letter to my favorite ship from any shmup - the R9.

Fun fact about Delta compared to Final - notice how powerful and fast the ship's machine guns are, and note how they were toned down in Final, much to my disappointment.

Starting with R-Type Delta - you adjust your ship's speed at will with L1 and L2. Neutral ground will not kill you like in older shmups - your ship will bounce and you'll see sparks around it and the controller will vibrate, but you won't die. Stage 6 is neutral ground, despite the bodies and wreckage that you see there. Any 'enemy' ground that you touch will still kill you.

Stage notes!
Stage 1 - I can almost always kill that snake machine with my second wave cannon shot. Of course I couldn't while recording...
Stage 2 - yes, we all love that the music changes depending on above or below water. Feel free to say it again though!!
Stage 3 - in my opinion, this is the coolest opening to any shmup stage ever.
Stage 4 - there is no up or down in space, there is only 'forward,' so you'll feel that you're always in the correct direction. Irem could have made you fly to the right, but kudos to them for making it awesome and have you fly upward while still facing right.
Stage 5 - this stage pretty much sums up R-Type to me overall - it's brilliant. It's a combination of enemies, the background of stage 5, and the wreckage of stage 6 from R-Type 1. The Bydo dimension or the pilot's nightmare? Also - I panicked and almost got myself killed by the brain jars when the green debris falls. I could not believe that I survived that.
Stage 6 - I did not know that you could hug into Dobkeratops like that until years after my original recording. It's a much safer tactic than what I used to do, and allowed me to use the Delta weapon in the middle of one of the hardest parts of the stage, and charge it again for the second part of the boss. And yes - at around 26:00, you really can back the ship up into that little alcove. I've always done that trick.
Stage 7 - there's probably an easier way to twitch dodge during the last part of the boss, but this is how I always did it in 2008 and 2009. I love this stage for how cinematic it is, showing humanity's greatest achievements, while still maintaining its challenge.

I love Delta, but not as much as Final, and never had the drive to do this one on Hard Difficulty.

I used my composite to HDMI tool so I could record from my PS2, the same as I did for R-Type Final.

I always asked friends of mine to pray for me when I was recording a shmup in 2017, and promised to carry their flags into battle. Not this time - Delta was for me.

I hope you enjoy the playthrough!

Until we meet again...
