Hard, cool, and frustrating. A very insane run. Also, I didn't unlock all the ships because the strike bomber is just the regular R-9 but with a power shot that blows through stuff.
Two other things to add:
1.) I avoid the missile powerup until stage six, because the missiles for the strike bomber are bombs (go figure), and the fifth boss has these blue and red appendages, and if they're destroyed, they'll take you to a different route, and it is extremely easy for the bombs to destroy those things.
2.) The top scores are not legitimate because I save stated through r-typer mode with the starter R-9 "Arrowhead" a bunch to see how impossible of a run that would be. Good luck to anyone who can beat the second phase of the stage four boss in a run consistently with that ship's super weak power shot.
