The boisterous buzz around Tata Motors' pavilion at the Geneva Motor Show 2017 finally culminated on Tuesday with the launch of the company's first sportscar - RACEMO. The two-seater was unveiled under Tata Motors' new sub brand Tamo
RACEMO sports a mid-mounted petrol engine which delivers 190Ps of maximum power and has torque figures of 210 Nm @2500 RPM. It promises to go from naught to 100kmph in six seconds. "RACEMO is the proving ground of the TAMO family of vehicles and will drive the future of India's connected generation," said Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD of Tata Motors, at the launch.
RACEMO also claims to be India's first 'connected car'. While no details on this were revealed at the launch, reports suggest Tata Motors' recent partnership with Microsoft means that RACEMO may come equipped with the next-level of navigation technology, computerised maintenance log and remote monitoring through Microsoft's cloud-based technology.
A rear-wheel drive, RACEMO will be offered only in coupe version to begin with. Company officials announced that the car is tuned to perform in Indian conditions. "RACEMO is built on a patented MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich (MMS) structure - a structural technology, enabling greater freedom in surface design, efficient large-scale part integration leading to modularity and faster time to market," the company announced in a statement. "A perfect blend of Italian sensuality and Indian ingenuity, RACEMO is India's first globally developed 'phygital' car, merging the physical and digital worlds."
As for safety, the car features ABS and EBD while the body itself is made with crash safety protection. Driver and passenger airbags are present as well.
