IMPORTANT CHANGE : Radiation mechanics were changed a bit, all radiation sources were multiplied by 10. So it's much easier to generate rads now, but also 10 times easier to get radiation poisoning.
The new radbolts mechanic is not to obvious and the ways of generating them efficiently is a little unintuitive. But so long as you have access to Wheezeworts you can easily get enough to run the materials lab. Of course shine bugs could also work. Later in the game I would recommend nuclear waste. We only cover a bit on interplanetary launchers, Diamond press and radbolt rockets. It's amazing how much stuff they keep adding to the game.
