Raiden DX (1997,PS ONE) full playthrough: (Normal Mode/Expert Route).
Raiden DX is the third game in the popular Raiden shmup franchise. It was released for the Arcade in 1994 and developed and published by Seibu Kaihatsu. The game was also ported to the PlayStation One console in 1997 by publishers Hamster Corporation. Like the previous Raiden games, there is a single or two player co-op mode.
Raiden DX is very similar to Raiden II, but with some noticeable changes. The player can choose three stages of play: Alpha Stage (AKA Training Stage or Stage 0) is a fifteen minute single level with only one boss fight. There are no one ups or continues, and if all three lives are used up, the game ends. Bravo Stage (AKA Normal mode) plays through stage 1 and game ends at stage 5. Ideal for beginners.
Perhaps the most noticeable differences of Raiden DX from Raiden II can be see in the Charlie Stage (Expert Mode) First, players go though all 8 stages and, if certain conditions are met (no continues) an extra bonus 9th stage is available. This stage sees the player fighting against the background of the remains of the massive Cranassian invasion ship from the first Raiden game, and a special extra boss; A metallic version of the first stage giant tank boss from Raiden Fighters. Very challenging and crazy frantic.
Other differences include end stage bosses have a different colour scheme and these boss battles are time attack scored (faster time results in higher points). The stage layout has also changed from Raiden II, including some new colour palettes, new enemy attack patterns, more animated backgrounds (the Aztec like statues in Stage 4 move this time when they shoot). and new enemies are introduced (like the Disco Ball Tank). Definitely for those who like a challenge in there shmups.
Here, I will be doing a full playthrough of the PlayStation One version on normal mode, Charlie Stage. I will be going through all eight stages, including the elusive bonus 9th level. Game loops itself after bonus level.
Note: This game is played for nostalgia, entertainment and posterity sake. Not expertise or high scoring. There will be deaths and continues. Just have fun and enjoy the nostalgia trip.
