One of the things that I do to rank and progress faster, make drops more rewarding and get more XP is playing at the higher rank than I am, the moment that I feel it's possible not based on the recommended power that the game tells me to.

I am now playing on Expert, getting more spell pages and more for different spells, I get more XP, rare equipment (finally!, didn't get it on 'Hard' mode). and much more. So to progress faster makes sure to do that.
