Ranking Sonic's "Lost" 8-bit Origins on the Sega Game Gear | Retrospective/Retro Review
80Woah, nelly! It's time for a 5 game review! Released all throughout Sonic's classic run on the Genesis, Sega cranked out 5 2D platformers for their handheld the Game Gear featuring the blue blur. These games (Sonic 1, 2, Chaos, Triple Trouble and Blast) all play similarly to their respective Genesis counterparts and all feature original zones, music and gameplay quirks but, for whatever reason, a lot of people seem to forget they exist!
It's especially strange that this is the case too because, if you would believe it, they're also among some of Sonic's more commonly re-released games. Not only were they just repackaged for us (along with other Game Gear Sonic titles I didn't discuss in this video) as a part of Sonic Origins Plus, but they're also available on Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Gems AND on a Sonic Coleco handheld from 2006!
So yeah. Today, I'll be zooming through these five platformers to answer everyones favorite question... Do they hold up?
