Super Mario RPG makes me wonder why it needs a remake | SNES Retrospective/Retro Review
535Released in 1996, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a turn based/isometric role playing game for the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom by Square. The title is a Japan/US exclusive that finds Mario and friends (including Bowser!) on a quest to stop the Smithee gang from doing evil junk and preventing people's dreams from being fulfilled.
Upon its release, the game received magnanimous praise from critics and players alike, who all agreed that there was something to be had for RPG newcomers and veterans alike. Since '96, it even spurred other spin-off RPGs staring Nintendo's iconic plumber and, as of this coming November, is also getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch.
But... Does it hold up and even need a remake in the first place?
In today's video, I'll be covering the iconic SNES swan song that is Super Mario RPG. I'll be discussing it's gameplay, some neat stuff pertaining to it's story, and I'll also be exploring whether or not I think the remake was necessary. It's a long once, so sit back, relax and enjoy!
