M4d Ski11z, veteran journalist at the Houston Chronicle, was one of the select journalists to receive a promo item from Activision before E3 2011 - a new IP called Skylanders. According to sources, there were 3 creatures sent to journalists - Spyro (pictured), Trigger Happy and Gill Grunt. There was no retail packaging for the creatures - and they were all in single packaging. There is a cool sticker that tells journos to bring their Skylanders to life at E3 2011. This is where the rare part comes in. Several journos did indeed go to E3 2011 in LA, activated their Skylander at the Activision booth and enjoyed their creatures. However, no one knows the exact number of the E3 2011 Skylanders sent out, but what is known is - there are very, very few of the E3 2011 Skylanders that are still sealed. Last check, one of the three sealed Skylander figures was fetching at least $750 for a sealed one, exactly like mine.

The E3 2011 Skylanders also won't register in any Skylander game. Since they were essentially prototypes, they are not activated. You had to activate the creatures at Activision's booth. If you find a Spyro, Gill Grunt or Trigger Happy that won't register, you may have one of the 600 E3 2011 Skylander figures.

I'm thankful for doing the necessary research because I was this close to giving E3 2011 Spyro away. ;)
