Playthrough & Game Overview

Hello, follow me!

In today’s episode, I am going to play through Twisted Metal 2! But before that I am going talk a little about Twisted Metal series. First, let’s find out which new characters and levels are in this second Twisted Metal game. Let’s also take a look at the plot of the game, and shortly overview the innovations of this game.

Maybe I am going to reveal something about Grasshopper, that you didn’t know?

Twisted Metal 2 takes place exactly one year after the original events. As there is nearly nothing left of Los Angeles, where the first tournament took place, Twisted Metal 2 tournament is set across various locations around the world such as Paris, Moscow, Hong Kong, Antarctica, Amazonia and more.

It features a diverse roster of characters, each with unique vehicles and weapons. Several characters such as Yellow Jacket, Darkside, Crimson Fury and Pit Viper were left out from the roster, and new characters such as Twister, Axel, Mr. Slam, Shadow and Grasshopper were added to the roster. Sweet Tooth and Minion are unlockable characters, expanding the total roster from 12 to 14.

The game features new final boss Dark Tooth, essentially larger and more heavily-armored version of Sweet Tooth. Dark Tooth is not directly unlockable via cheats but there is a way to play as him.

Also interesting to know, that Outlaw in Twisted Metal 2 is actually sister of the original character, who is looking for his lost brother. And, Pit Viper was replaced by Grasshopper. This can be justified by hacking Grasshopper's texture file, where several traces of unused sprites can be found.

The game was originally released in 1996 for the Playstation, and is a landmark vehicular combat game that took the chaotic action of its predecessor to new heights. PC version of the game was released in 1997, and just like the first Twisted Metal PC version, Twisted Metal 2 on PC is also rarity.

I’m not going to deep review the game, because I love it too much to criticize it. Shortly concluded, it improved graphics, refined controls, and added multiplayer options such as cooperative play in the story mode and competitive matches. It also added special moves which I had all forgotten.

But enough talking, enjoy my playthrough with Thumper!
