Ratatouille (PS2) Gameplay -No Commentary- | Hyperkin PS1/PS2 HDTV Cable |
I muted the background music for this footage, but what can't be muted is that for a PS2 game, this game looks great. It supports 16:9 widescreen which is why this footage is in 16:9. The game itself is a mediocre children's 3D platformer. It's not a bad game, but there's nothing here that hadn't been done a lot better in games that came before Ratatouille.
The visuals for PS2 standards look great. You can tell that by 2007 when this game hit, developers had already figured out how to push the PS2 to it's visual max. They knew what shortcuts to take, and what effects they could use to improve the graphics in the games. It doesn't support progressive scan or anything like that, but for standard def visuals on the PS2 Asobo Studio knew their stuff.
If you have trouble seeing the graphical fidelity in PS2 games, I just uploaded a video of X-Squad on the PS2 which was a PS2 launch game. If you want to compare a PS2 game from the year 2000 to a game 7 years of PS2 development later go here: https://youtu.be/ixfl6Mh4DVY
