Drift Legends [ANDROID]
DEVICE: ASUS ROG Phone 3
Straight up, this is a pretty good drifter for your phone/tablet. While it definitely is not hard to play, it is not so easy that it will feel like a boring excuse of a game either.
The mistakes I made in this video were because I was playing this at work, and one of my older co-workers was sitting nearby making exhausted, huffing noises... from just sitting still. You know the type, the decaying "oldie" that slurps at a cup of coffee/tea. Infuriating!
And yet, I managed to power through the annoying ambient noises and get better at drifting. I personally found the on screen arrow controls to be more intuitive, precise, and less distracting than using the phone's gyro for steering.
Fully free, this game will force adverts on you every now and then. It was not excessive, but it happened about 20 minutes in. Thankfully the cheapest "car pack" includes a proper No Ads feature, and by the time the first advert showed itself, I was convinced I liked the feel of it all.
There is a definite grind element to earning credits to purchase more vehicles, and you will find as you progress through the Beginner events, if you purely try and play this FREE with the starter Tuono, it will be a long, LONG grind. With the handful of cars in the pack that I purchased, you will quickly gain access to the higher paying Beginner events (the ones that require American and Turbo cars) that will help speed up your earning potential so that it does not feel like a Freemium scam.
The most important thing to understand is that once you purchase your No Ads experience, you will not feel like you have to purchase anything more unless you are really, REALLY lazy, or impatient... or really bad at playing "games"... and if that last one is you, you are best going back to the plethora of fake Pay2Win games out there. The ones that pretend to let you progress so long as you fall down that Spend-Upgrade-Win-Spend-Upgrade rabbit hole.
As for the driving, I found it rather satisfying in a casual, arcady sort of way. Arcade physics, yes, but done quite well. Having had a taste of the Mustang in this video, I kept playing because the better cars did feel... better. The turbo'ed Silvia was quite enjoyable, as was the lowest spec BMW. Enjoyable enough that I will feel compelled to fire this game up every now and then on a meal break at work to grind up some more Event progress and get closer to unlock-purchasing more, higher spec'ed vehicles, until I have them all.
Customisations are limited though. A decent selection of paint colours, and a severely limited choice of rims... that is it! Kind of a shame, but the focus is on the actual driving, and that is what the game gets RIGHT!
Remember you can try this in its raw, Free2Play state to really get a feel for whether you will get into the handling or not. Well worth considering if you dig racers and/or drifting.
