Playing in Ultra Widescreen: INSURGENCY SANDSTORM [PC]
0This is a compilation of some gameplay of me, basically trying to get used to playing this game with my recently acquired Ultra Widescreen monitor.
(Final multicolour nightvision had to be done in singleplayer/AI mode because I didn't have the patience to find a Night match... too many people are afraid of the brutal difficulty of Night)
Overall, now that it is starting to feel a lot more organic to have that increased range of vision, this is definitely the way Sandstorm should be played in my opinion. The added sense of peripheral vision adds to the mil-sim nature of the game, making the supression feel more intense, the ability to spot an enemy from the corner of your eye... and the enhanced sense of shame when you realise your killer was in your line of sight the whole time, but you failed to register their position until that fatal moment.
As of the time of this gameplay, early 2022... I have to point out that Sandstorm does not support the slightly odd resolution of my monitor.
I am using an LG Ultragear 34" screen with a resolution of 2560x1080 (WFHD). For some reason this particular pixel spec of Ultrawide is not supported by most other games either... WQHD is more commonly included (that being 3440x1440).
Whether or not it will be included at a future date in a patch, who knows. I tried forcing the resolution by way of editing the config file... and that works, once, and then resets the next time you load the game. It is an unnecessary mess around trying to go Fullscreen or Borderless Window, so I simply settle on Windowed mode and Maximise... that works flawlessly (and at the full 144Hz refresh rate too I might add).
Another issue is that the ingame settings do not allow you to select between monitors if you have a multi-screen setup... so you will have to settle for Windowed mode.
Otherwise, I have to say, I highly recommend playing Sandstorm with an ultrawide setup.
