RDNA 3 Has TENSOR CORES?! AMD Confirms Advanced Ray Tracing & Other Tech
A very interesting leak has surfaced, which suggests that RDNA 3 GPUs have TENSOR CORES. Or more properly, a technology in the Navi 3X architecture that's very similar to Nvidia's tensor cores. We examine what this could meean for RX 7000's architecture, and how it could impact ray tracing performance and more.
But what other uses could RDNA 3 tensor cores have? And could RDNA 3 architecture bring a much more competitive AMD in RT vs Nvidia? Reports have long stated that RDNA 3 has a lot of differences in it's hardware specs, including of course the lack of compute units and WGPs and MCDs. But what does it all mean? Just what kind of gaming and ray tracing performance can we expect from RX 7000 vs RTX 40?
AMD have also CONFIRMED advanced ray tracing for RDNA 3 graphics cards, alongside other tech that we can expect to see in their next gen GPUs. Ray tracing improvements are definitely needed after a lacklustre showing from RDNA 2, but of course RT is just one area of competition in the battle between RTX 40 Lovelace and RDNA 3.
We also have some benchmarks for the Intel 13th gen Raptor Lake CPU, the 13900K. While this is an early engineering sample performance benchmark, it still gives some interesting insights into the workload performance of the flagship 13900K Raptor Lake processor.
