On Sep 30th 2019 Shawn Layden sent shockwaves around the world by announcing his decision to leave Sony World Wide Studios. He made his announcement on his Twitter account that he was stepping down in his role. He never explained his decision or gave any real meaningful information as to why he made his decision. I remember at the time and for a long time after thinking what was going to happen to the PlayStation, what was going to happen to the Launch of Ps5, What’s going on at PlayStation. After all, Shawn Layden oversaw an extremely successful time with Sony PlayStation heading up SCEA as President and SEO, he took over from Jack Tretton and basically guided Sony from the End of the PS3 Era through to the PS4 era.
He was a fan favourite and many people believe he would remain at Sony for life. However, in 2019 he shocked the gaming world by announcing his decision to step down and leave Sony. No reason or explanation was given.
