Where to start with a review of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? Square Enix's Follow up to Final Fantasy Remake contains homages, easter eggs, references to its Playstation roots, including a loving prologue to the original FF7. On the other hand, Rebirth's ending weaves a multiverse, reality bending, whisper returning tale that puts Sephiroth into an even more omnipresent villain role.

To start, we'd need to review Rebirth's handling of the beloved cast: Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, Sephiroth and the rest of the party and how the RPG expands on their trials, tragedies and triumphs both in the story and as developed characters, with amazing voice acting to match. Each character gets their own playable moments to shine and it bolsters the love fans have for the most endearing Roleplaying Game cast of all time. The love triangle between Cloud, Tifa and Aerith, the hilarious yet touching bond between Red XIII and Bugenhagen, Zack's constant presence looming over Cloud's fractured psyche through flashbacks and reclaimed memories? It's all here.

That cast is hilarious too!! Instead of being dark and dreary like so many games feel the need to be, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth embraces the 'bizarre' JRPG roots and wackiness, not toning down any classic moments and throwing many more at gamers!

Speaking of expanding, the open world RPG setup of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not only HUGE, but crammed full of things to do! Beloved minigames like Chocobo Races, Gold Saucer dates, and Fort Condor's Strategic simulation battles are in full force, coupled with new minigames like finding Genji armor from the legendary Gilgamesh and frantic mine cart races through Corel!. Chocobos, Buggies, and fast travel allows players to explore every inch of FF7s world without getting fatigued.

The entire experience is held up with an engaging, cohesive battle systems that keeps the strategy of turn based RPGs mixed with more new abilities like Synergy attacks, again proving the worth of Barret, Cait Sith and everyone else as they combine their skills!

BUT, it's not all roses and glorious Loveless Plays, and the faults need to be reviewed too. There is so much padding to endure in FF7 Rebirth:, even more so than FF7 Remake, with Cloud needing to find and battle hundreds of objects and things that have little to no plot relevance.

Rebirth's most prominent minigame, Queen's Blood, is an unintuitive mess with awful music and no real rewards which still FORCES itself on the player during certain plot points. Speaking of plot, Zack, who was teased as going to have a very BIG role in this game, is simply used as convoluted plot exposition, not getting any action or fighting roles until the very end of the game.

And that ENDING is divisive to say the least. Without going into major Spoilers here (tons in the video though, be prepared), the whole multiverse angle, return of the whispers, and uncertainty Square Enix created has left purist fans shaking their fests and cursing the developer's name! There's so much to unpack, and I am certain no one will watch this all the way through, but if you want to dive into a specific element of FF7: Rebirth, you're bound to find it here, and if you disagree, that's totally ok!
