Persona 3 Reload invigorates Tartarus battles with new techniques incorporated from Persona 5. It also borrows from Final Fantasy 7 in its Theurgy moves that are like 'limit breaks'. The original Persona 3 limited players in its control over the party members, favouring AI instead, while Reload gives out free reign for gamers to issue commands as they see fit. There's TONS to unpack when revisiting this landmark RPG for the Persona series. GONE is the stamina system, so players can chug energy drinks over and over to keep enough SP energy to stay in Tartarus.

Production values like graphics and sound are a mixed bag. Theurgy animations give characters anime style flourishes that make use of more graphic power, and the soundtrack is touched up with new Battle music from Lotus Juice. However, Atlus could've redressed Persona 3 up a lot more, as its not even as advanced as 2017's Persona 5 with its Graphics, and barely ANY music was changed, including some awful tracks that are grating to listen to.

The difficulty of the base 'normal' game is reduced, with easy to abuse clocks that offer full heals to the party as well as Fuuka's huge BUFF abilities that let the player take less damage or escape battles and shadows. What's more, Theurgy can be held forever, so gamers can just save their big attacks for boss battles. The system definitely has some shortcomings.

Still, Persona 3 Reload's combat is addictive as ever, and boosting the difficulty renders these features much more essential and less of a 'cheat' code, so you can still enjoy a harsh challenge if that's what you like in your RPGs! The presentation isn't mind blowing, but it represnts the style of the game and the entire series in a very respectable light. Give Persona 3 Reload a chance if you haven't already. Its gameplay is just as noteworthy as its Social Links and intricate plot!!
