Recollect - The Calls Are Coming From Inside The Computer - Recollect Lets Play, Recollect Gameplay
This is my Recollect Lets play. We're working late after school in this Recollect game, on a hard-hitting soda story. Then the lights start flickering. A bell starts ringing. And we're drawn inexorably to the old computer room, which is rumoured to be haunted and linked to a couple of student deaths. Styled after Gone Home, the stories and daily life of the school are fed to us by notes and posters, but can we solve the mystery of the computer lab?
This is a Recollect Let's Play. Recollect is an indie game by Emma Houghton - go lady dev! The Recollect gameplay is first person action, and also walking simulator. Recollect takes inspiration from Firewatch and Gone Home. The protagonist and antagonist of Recollect are both women. Recollect was released in 2017, and was built using Unreal Engine 4.

In this Recollect game, you play as Sam. Sam is a student reporter, working late on a story for the student paper. You explore the empty school, picking up notes that give you fragments of information about the daily life of the school, as well as it's dark secret: that the computer lab is haunted. You and Sam come across the haunted computer, and get to know the spirit that inhabits it. You have dialogue options to progress the game in your own way.

Developer description of Recollect:
"Recollect is a narrative-driven walking simulator with a text-adventure twist, developed as my honours project at Abertay University. Inspired by the supernatural mysteries of shows such as Stranger Things, along with the unique storytelling methods of games such as Firewatch and Gone Home, the game sees players embody Sam, a teenager, as she becomes entangled in a decades-old mystery regarding the disappearance of a prior student at her high school. Players explore the high school environment, unravelling two narratives simultaneously – the primary linearly through dialogue interaction with Kim - the missing student, the secondary non linearly through environmental exploration.
With shades of Y2K and The Chinese Room argument, the game aims to subvert player expectations through atmosphere and the synthesis of disparate interaction systems; text-adventure and 3D first person exploration. The game aims to develop character relationships solely through the use text-based dialogue; the player interacting with a non-player-character entirely through an outdated computer system within the game world.
