Dating from the early Bronze Age (1500BC) these stone circles are unique to Aberdeenshire and have an unusual and spectacular recumbent stone sitting between two tall flanking pillars. I visited around 30 of these circles during a two week trip to Scotland earlier this year. All photos and music is my own.

Sites of particular interest (my selection; there are over 80 of these circles in Aberdeenshire, in various states of preservation, including some "show sites" such as Loanhead of Daviot and Easter Aquhorthies, which I felt had been over-interpreted, at the expense of their natural power):

1. Old Keig
2. Castle Fraser
3. Sunhoney
4. Midmar Kirk
5. Loanend
6. Dunnideer
7. Stonehead
8. New Craig
9. Corrstones
10. Garrol Wood
