Red Alert 3 - Soviet Campaign - Mission 7: Mt. Fuji (To Tame a Living God)
Prior to the operation, Premier Cherdenko personally promoted the Soviet Commander to Marshal of the Soviet Union, following an attempted assassination on the Premier and the elimination of the accused traitor, General Nikolai Krukov. Meanwhile, the Allies remained unaware that Soviet forces had abandoned them at the harbor of Japan’s capital during simultaneous strikes on every naval base of Naomi Shirada.
The Soviet Union was now back on the offensive, reclaiming much of the territory lost to the Empire of the Rising Sun’s initial invasion. Only a few Pacific-facing territories remained under Imperial control. Instead of focusing on clearing these territories, Cherdenko ordered the newly promoted Marshal to lead an audacious attack on the Japanese mainland, targeting the Imperial Palace at the base of Mt. Fuji with the objective of assassinating Emperor Yoshiro. The death of the Emperor was expected to decapitate the Imperial government, throwing the Empire into chaos and removing them from the war, allowing the USSR to concentrate fully on defeating the Allies.
Shortly after the briefing, Dr. Gregor Zelinsky contacted the Marshal, revealing that the current reality had been altered by Soviet intervention in the space-time continuum. According to Zelinsky, the Empire of the Rising Sun had never existed in the original timeline, and Cherdenko was not meant to become Premier. Though the scientist’s warnings seemed like the ravings of a madman, he stressed that the Marshal was in great danger and was one of the few who could reveal the truth to the people and guide them forward.
Meanwhile, the Empire had fortified the Imperial Palace, preparing for the eventuality that an enemy strike might target the Emperor himself. Failure would solidify Soviet dominance, while success would end the Empire’s will to fight.
