Mission Guide: Discovery!
Thought you were done after defeating the Soviets? Think again! The battle isn’t over yet. We’ve lost contact with an outpost, and after receiving a brief communique, we discovered that the cause might be… giant ants? We’re not sure what this means, but it’s time to investigate. Our mission is to send a small reconnaissance force to reestablish contact with the base and uncover what’s really going on.

This walkthrough covers the first of four special missions in Red Alert Remastered. Everything you do here will impact the next mission, so it’s crucial to keep as many structures and units intact as possible. This is a timed mission—when the timer hits zero, victory is yours. Your main task is to hold the line and keep building units (especially riflemen) to defend the base. In the next mission, you’ll get your revenge on those ants! Good luck, Commander!

Discovery!
You’ll start the mission with a small Allied attack force in the southwest (that golden color scheme is great—perhaps a nod to the future Global Defense Initiative?). Move your troops north, then turn east, and you’ll quickly discover an abandoned base.

Taking Positions
Your objective is to hold the outpost until reinforcements arrive. To succeed, you need to survive until the timer reaches zero. Expect relentless attacks from giant ants. The best defense against this threat is infantry—and lots of it. Begin training riflemen at the barracks and field medics to keep your troops healthy. Repair the pillboxes and station riflemen to the east, north, and west of the base (it’s particularly effective to position infantry outside the western edge of the base).

State-Funded
Send your ore truck to the ore field south of the base, but be cautious—there are ants guarding the area. Escort the ore truck with riflemen to clear out the ants and ensure your truck isn’t damaged or destroyed. With more funding, repair essential structures (starting with the ore refinery) and train additional troops. Position larger groups of riflemen (preferably 10 or more) at the base entrances.

Waves of Attack
Ant attacks will come in waves. As your funding increases, replace any lost units and repair the base. Always keep an eye on your ore truck’s safety. When the southern ore field is depleted, head west to another ore field. Some players find success with minefields, but this strategy isn’t particularly effective for me (though feel free to try it!). Be especially wary of fire ants—they’re lethal to your infantry. Although you can distract them with vehicles, the tech level in this mission doesn’t allow for light or medium tanks.

Almost There!
_As the timer counts down, expect more waves of ants. Continuously check the perimeter and reassign riflemen to areas needing reinforcement. If your harvester gets lost toward the end of the mission, don’t worry—in the follow-up mission, you’ll receive a new one._😉
