Red Dead Online has evolved and changed greatly over its 3+ years of existence. As a result, just jumping into the game blind could prove difficult for many new players. There are a TON of things to do: icons are littered across the map, text of some kind will pop up on your screen every 10 seconds, and there's about 50 different menus, submenus and modes to play at any given time.

As long as I've been covering this game here on the channel, I've been consistently bombarded with questions from confused, new players looking to jump into the game for the first time. What should I do first? How do I get some cash and gold quickly? What's the best role to start with? Should I spend real money on gold?

I like to make things simple here on the channel, so I think the time is right to answer all of those questions in the form of a single video. I created a new character, experienced first hand what it's like to get started with Red Dead Online in 2022, and wrote this video to help others do the same. We establish a simple, initial goal and work toward that goal, filtering out all of the crap that doesn't matter when just getting started.

While working towards that initial goal, we can learn the basics of the game naturally. I explain the basics behind cash, gold and XP, and then really narrow in on gold, the most important and difficult to find resource. Then, it comes time to purchase our first roles. I recommend Bounty Hunter and Collector specifically, for reasons explained in the video. With those roles under your belt, you have access to easy XP, Cash and Gold, and at that point, the game REALLY opens up, and you're much more free to do whatever you want. To close, I give a brief overview of the remaining three roles: the Trader, the Naturalist and the Moonshiner!

I hope this video helps anyone out there looking to get started with Red Dead Online. It's a wonderful game, but definitely confusing if you're just jumping in blind for the first time.
